Shutters for Charlestown & the brick hills

Charlestown, Cardiff, Mount Hutton and the hill streets above Warners Bay: the established heart of the city, where the windows are standard sizes, the walls are brick, and the neighbours are close enough to wave to. Different windows, different work.

Timber's home ground

Up here the salt eases off, and the material conversation changes. Basswood, light, stable and painted to the colour you actually want, is what we reach for first in the hills' living rooms and bedrooms. It's warmer than PVC to the hand and the eye, and away from the heavy salt it lasts the way timber should.

The windows themselves are a different job from the lakeside too. Established brick homes mean established reveals: mostly standard sizes, occasionally out of square in the honest way older houses are. A Z-frame wraps that reveal and covers the small gaps; it's the workhorse frame of these suburbs and one reason a measured quote beats a catalogue guess.

  • The look

Front-tilt rods suit these homes' character, and plenty of owners choose them for exactly that. Hidden tilt is there when you want the cleaner line; both are shown at the measure.

  • Privacy

The hills' issue isn't foreshore paths, it's second storeys and infill next door. Angling louvres up takes the neighbour's sight line out of the room while the light keeps coming. The privacy guide covers the geometry.

  • Wet rooms

Bathrooms and laundries still get PVC, everywhere, always. Steam doesn't care about your postcode.

  • Street presence

On a brick facade, crisp white louvres in the front windows change the whole house. It's the cheapest facelift in the suburb and the reason half our hill-street work comes from neighbours walking past.

Charlestown to Cardiff, and the units in between

Charlestown is the city's commercial hub with deep suburban streets behind it; most of our whole-home basswood work lives here. Cardiff runs the same brief along the highway corridor. Mount Hutton mixes houses with the area's biggest share of units and townhouses, where we work with strata on consistent street-facing louvres. The Warners Bay hill streets, Macquarie Hills and Tingira Heights above the town centre, are almost all standalone homes with lake glimpses that deserve better than venetians.
