Shutters for Toronto & the western shore
Toronto has been a lake town long enough that its shutters have age on them. That changes what we're mostly asked to do on this shore: assess, repair and revive first; replace when replacing is the honest answer.
Houses that are staying put
The western shore doesn't churn. Toronto and its water pockets, Kilaben Bay, Coal Point, Carey Bay, are almost entirely established standalone homes, held for decades, renovated rather than replaced. The shutters tell the same story: good bones, decades of lake air, hardware that's done its time.
East-facing across the water, these homes get their glare in the morning rather than at four o'clock, and their waterfront pockets collect the same salt as anywhere on the lake. The peninsula streets around Coal Point put water on both sides of the house, which the hinges notice even when the owners don't.
- The repair call
Most western-shore visits start with an assessment: which panels are worth saving, which louvres can be swapped, whether the tilt gear is tired or just dirty. You get the answer straight, priced before work starts.
- The revive
Freed hinges, replaced blades, re-hung panels and a proper clean bring a surprising number of older shutters back to daily service for a fraction of a re-fit.
- The honest replace
When a system is genuinely done, warped panels, obsolete parts, paint past saving, we say so, and quote a replacement measured to the same openings, usually in PVC or aluminium so the next twenty years go easier than the last.
- Morning glare
For the east-facing breakfast rooms looking back across the lake, the same blade-width and tilt logic applies as the eastern shore's 4pm problem, just twelve hours earlier.

What we look at before we recommend anything
Hinges and fasteners first, because rust bloom there is cheap to fix early and expensive to ignore. Then the tilt mechanism under real load, the louvres in raking light for warp and haze, and the panel squareness in the frame. Ten minutes of looking separates a morning's repair from a re-fit, and it's the same ten minutes whether your shutters are ours or someone else's from 2003.
